Yesterday, I interviewed a Harvard Law School graduate who has been working in Life Sciences venture capital for over ten years.
So what, you say? It's easy to get on the phone with someone who lives in Boston or on Sand Ridge Drive.
Well, this guy just returned home to Indianapolis after his venture capital fund went bust due to the economic downturn!
Isn't this what people in Indiana economic development and the local venture capital community (including the now defunct Indiana Venture Center) have been hoping for, for years?
An experienced, well educated, life sciences venture capitalist has moved to Indianapolis! Now we all need to help him find a job!
Our firm was hired several years ago by the Indiana Venture Center to help in a recruiting and talent acquisition strategy to bring experienced venture capitalists from the East and West Coasts to Indiana. It was not an easy task to convince this very tight community that Indiana should even be on the VC radar. Many VCs were intrigued that a corporate recruiting strategy had been employed to attract West and East Coasters to the "risk averse" Midwest. Maybe all the custom recruiting and research has paid off to an extent.
